Common Moorhen

Characteristics

A bird of the race family with a distinctive red beak and forehead. The head and belly are black, and the wings are slightly greenish brown. The iris is red. A white line runs between the wings and torso. The petals are yellow to yellowish green, long and thick. It rarely sings, but its cry is loud. From this voice, it was named as a bird that "guards" the paddy fields.

Ecology

It lives in lakes and rivers. It swims among aquatic plants and walks with long legs. They do not have webbed feet, so they are poor and slow swimmers. It is not as cautious as a rail, but when it senses danger, it will flee into the grass. It eats insects and plant seeds. Build nests near water and breed.

Habitat
