Characteristics
A moray eel characterized by two tubular nostrils protruding from the base of its eyes and the tip of its upper jaw.
The body is dark brown with white spots scattered all over the body. The spots around the face are large. The redness is getting stronger toward the tip of the mouth. Jaws longer than moray eels.
Ecology
It inhabits crevices between rocky reefs and eats small fish and crustaceans. It threatens when approached, but does not actively bite.
It swims limply, not very fast.
Habitat
Miura Peninsula Arasaki
It was found in a rocky area at a depth of about 2m in the second half of August. He was sticking his head out from the rocky place, opening and closing his mouth. This individual was active even during the day, and moved a little from place to place each time I saw it.
