Characteristics
A Japanese endemic species of the Selaginaceae family.
The whole body is brown and has a plain body color. The brown on the back is brighter and reddish than on the head. The belly is more gray than brown. The legs are light flesh colored and the beak is black.
Because it is often seen in thickets, it looks like a crocodile at first glance. The signs are also similar to Grey Bunting.
Ecology
Inhabits alpine forests and rocky areas. It does not come out easily in bright places and moves in thickets. It eats insects and seeds in bushes. They often act singly or in pairs.
Habitat
Kanagawa Pref. Hayatogawa Forest Road
I took a picture of him in a thicket on the slope facing the dam. The two birds walked on the ground, turning over fallen leaves to find and eat seeds. It did not emerge from the thicket for a long time, but finally appeared between the branches.
