A scarab beetle with a total length of about 1 cm. Its brown forewings have vertical stripes. The head and thorax are metallic green. The boundary between the head and prothorax looks like an inverted V-shaped triangle. There are white stripes on the edge of the abdomen.
It invaded America in the early 20th century and became a pest.
Adults can be seen from summer to autumn. They feed on the leaves and flowers of plants in the legume family. Although it is a scarab beetle, it is often active during the day.
I photographed an individual next to the boardwalk that crosses the pond in Katakura Castle Ruins Park. It seemed to be eating grass alone.
