Characteristics

This longhorn beetle has a distinctive bright white-green and black pattern. The thorax has two black eye-like spots on a white background. The white-green part of the pattern on the abdomen looks like a bird with its wings spread.

The legs have a blue-green and black pattern, and the wings are black. The antennae are slightly thick and blue-green up to the second segment, and the tips are black and thin.

Ecology

Adults can be seen from around May, and feed on the leaves of plants in the Urticaceae family. Their bodies are just under 2cm long and move quickly. Individuals in Japan are thought to have invaded as an alien species.

Habitat

On a leaf near Nakanoshima Station

There is a waterway along the tracks of the Nambu Line. I found two individuals on a leaf beside the waterway. They moved quickly, and even when I tried to take a photo, they just kept moving across the leaves, and one of them quickly flew away somewhere.
