A saltwater fish characterized by a white dorsal fin that is 1.5 to 2 times longer than its body. The dorsal fin is curved inward. Black, white, and yellow alternate vertically. The root of the slightly elongated mouth like a beak is yellow. There is a triangular pale line running between the eyebrows.
Found on reefs and coral reefs in tropical seas. Move alone or in small groups. It preys on algae and small animals on rocks.
I photographed a medium-sized individual swimming alone during a dive. It wasn't very fast, it was a wandering way of swimming. The curved dorsal fin was graceful.
