Ecology

It occurs from early summer to the end of summer and can be seen until around October. Collects nectar from flowers, rotten fruit and wet ground. The larvae eat grasses such as rice and pampas grass.

Insect "rice beetle"

Since the larvae feed on rice, it has been regarded as a pest. When a large outbreak occurs, it eats up rice plants.

Habitat

I took a picture of it perched on a leaf in Katakura Castle Ruins Park, Hachioji City. It was a solid with a slightly brownish color. The yellow scales on the wings were falling off and the tips were missing. Her eyes were big and she looked cute.
