Characteristics
A butterfly of the Bluebottle genus with pale blue or cream-colored bands on black wings. The color of the spots varies by region.
It is very similar to the Blue-veined Swallowtail, but the spots are sparser than those of the Bluebottle.
It has red spots on the hind wings.

Ecology
It emerges from summer to autumn and overwinters as a pupa. It feeds on plants such as the Japanese oak tree.
Habitat
The coast of Iriomote Island
I photographed an individual absorbing water on the coast of Iriomote Island. It was the first time I had seen this species, so at first glance I mistook it for a Bluebottle. Several of them descended to the ground to absorb water. The pale blue pattern was beautiful.
