Characteristics
As its Japanese name suggests, this fish belongs to the stickleback family and is characterized by a snout-like forehead. The whole body is rugged and flat. The area around the head is white, but the tail has a brown speckled pattern, which is a protective coloration. The pectoral fins are large and translucent, with white margins.
Ecology
live on the seabed. It often stays still under the sand. They eat small animals such as crustaceans and plankton.
Habitat
Inside Osezaki Bay
I saw it while diving in Osezaki Bay. It was a strange fish sitting still near the bottom of the sea. It is rugged and at first glance it does not seem like a fish. If you look closely, it has a charming face.
