Inhabits coastal areas, estuaries, and tidal flats, and eats dead fish and animal carcasses. They breed by forming a colony (collective breeding ground). It cries "kyu-kyu", and the cry is said to be similar to the cry of a cat. They are often seen together with black-tailed gulls and black-headed gulls. In addition to being a symbol of Kanagawa Prefecture, it is also famous for being the mascot of the Chiba Lotte Marines.
Found in the harbor of Queenstown, New Zealand. When I gave him an ice cream cone, he happily approached me. They seemed to be learning to get food from tourists. Curious and human. I flew lightly through the late summer afternoon.
