Asian small-clawd otter

Characteristics

It is the smallest otter. They form family groups and live near water such as rivers, marshes, and coasts. They have webbed feet and are good swimmers, preying on fish and reptiles. It can float on water thanks to its thick fur. In Malaysia, they are domesticated and fish together with humans. Even in Japan, people are attracted to cute faces, and in recent years some people have begun to keep them as pets.

Habitat

They are kept at the Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo City, Hokkaido. It swam freely in the tank and occasionally cried out. It jumped into the water and swam vigorously, rubbed its body against rocks, and rested on a hammock, repeating the cycle.
