Characteristics
An eagle with a brown body and white tail feathers. Other than the tail feathers, white feathers are mixed here and there. The beak is pale yellow, and some individuals have a lead-like tip. The iris is whitish yellow. The wing silhouette is not curved and appears rectangular.
Ecology
It is mainly found in waterside areas such as coasts and lakes. In addition to fish and mammals, it also eats animal carcasses. Except in winter, they move alone and in pairs.
Habitat
I took a picture of them flying around near Takkobunuma in Kushiro Marsh. There seemed to be many young birds, chasing each other around. Some engaged in heated, acrobatic aerial combat.
