This Nymphalidae butterfly has beautiful light blue markings on a brown background. Its body is black with small white spots. Its markings are smaller than those of the Monarch Butterfly. Its wingspan is about 7.5cm.
The larvae feed on the plant Turmorinka and ingest toxins from the nectar of the plants and flowers.
I photographed an individual flying in the forests near the coast of Iriomote Island. It wasn't very wary, and even when I got close it just spread its wings and stayed still. I saw them often on the island, and each one had a beautiful light blue color, which I felt was perfect for a tropical climate.
