Characteristics
A pufferfish with white polka dots spreading across its gray back. There is a circular pattern at the base of the pectoral fin. Vertical stripes run from the snout to the white belly.
Large individuals grow to about 50cm.
Ecology
They are often found in places where seaweed grows, such as reefs and tide pools.
They prey on animal life such as crustaceans and starfish.
Habitat
Osezaki
The photo was taken in the shallow waters of Osezaki, about 2m deep. It was wandering alone on the rocks.
Hachijojima Sokodo Beach
It was swimming on the sand a little away from the coral reef at Sokodo Beach. It was slowly foraging without any sense of caution.
