Characteristics
A flycatcher with a body length of less than 15 cm. The back is gray and the flight feathers are blackish brown. It has a distinctive dark brown pattern that runs vertically from the chest to the belly, which distinguishes it from the Red-eared Redstart, which has a uniformly white belly. The beak is lead-colored and pointed. The eye ring is quite thin but slightly white.
Ecology
They can be seen in mountain forests and flatland parks during the migration season. Sometimes they travel alone, but sometimes they form flocks of several birds.
They fly out from tree branches to catch and eat insects in the air.
Habitat
Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park
This photo was taken on the lawn of Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park in October. They would jump out of the treetops and catch prey in the air. There was another bird nearby. They seemed to have settled down around the square and were seen for a long time.
