Characteristics
A deciduous shrub that blooms purple flowers on sandy soil. The stems grow horizontally rather than vertically, so most are several tens of centimeters tall.
Pale blue-purple flowers bloom at the end of the panicle. There are four stamens.
The leaves are oval and whitish on the underside.
Ecology
They grow in clusters on sandy areas such as the coast. Even on windy coasts, they grow their stems horizontally. They bloom from summer to early autumn.
Habitat
Niijima
I photographed the flowers growing in clusters near the coast of Niijima.
The blue-purple flowers stood out beautifully on the coast. The buds before the panicle bloomed were also cute.
