The call of the Little Ringed Plover
It makes a high-pitched "piu piu piu" call.
How to distinguish it from the Little Ringed Plover
Its body is one size larger than that of the Little Ringed Plover. And the eye ring is not as clear as that of the Little Ringed Plover and is thin. The length of the beak also appears to be a little longer. The black ring on the chest also appears thinner than that of the Little Ringed Plover.
Ecology
They are often seen in the riverbeds of the middle and upper reaches of rivers. They nest and breed in places with many stones. They can also be seen foraging at the water's edge.
Habitat
Tama River midstream riverbed
I observed an individual that had flown to the riverbed in the middle reaches of the Tama River. There were four birds there, walking around the riverbed and foraging on the riverbank. They were a little difficult to find unless they were moving, as their coloring was very similar to the stones on the Tama River riverbed. They were very cautious when birds of prey appeared overhead.
