Characteristics
A butterflyfish with distinctive spines extending from the adult dorsal fin. The individual in the photo is still juvenile.
The body is white with straight black parallel lines. A single black band runs through the eye. The back of the body, dorsal fin, and caudal fin are bright yellow, and there is a black spot behind the dorsal fin.
Ecology
It inhabits reefs and coral reefs and eats algae and small crustaceans. In Japan, it is often seen in the Ryukyu Islands, but it can also be seen along the coast of Honshu as a dead migratory fish in the summer.
Habitat
Miura Peninsula Arasaki
I found juvenile fish on shallow reefs at low tide. Arasaki has many butterflyfish, but other species are rare. I will shoot a species that happened to come like this individual.
I was able to take a picture because he stayed still in the shade of the rock.
