Characteristics
This long-eared owl has a distinctive black-brown pattern from its chest to belly. The back is brown like the surface of a tree.

Ecology
Confirmed in forests all over Japan. They sleep in trees during the day and start hunting at night.
Habitat
On a sunny day in January, I found him sleeping in a large tree. As time passed and the sun moved, it changed direction little by little. It looked like he had the sun at his back.
When it turned, it opened its eyes slightly so I could photograph its face.
