Scientific name | Oxytate striatipes |
English name | grass crab spiders |
Japanese name | Wakabagumo |
Classification | Arachnida |
Classification details | Araneae Thomisidae |
Full length | 12-13cm |
Distribution | Distribution from East Asia to Russia. North of Yakushima in Japan. |
Characteristics
It is a spider of the crab spider family, and its whole body is light green with a sense of transparency. Unusually for Crab spiders, the abdomen is vertically long, with a thin vertical line running down the center. First, the bipod is long and the chelicerae are rounded. The eyes are brown and shaped like a "W" when viewed from above. Mature males have brown legs.
Ecology
It is easy to see because it lives on trees and leaves. It catches insects in ambush. They breed from spring to summer and can be seen until around September. It can also move along threads.
Habitat
I was stretching threads from thistle flower to flower on a forest road in Hachioji, Tokyo. It moved along the thread, but its movements weren't that agile. The tips of the legs had a brown tint.
