Characteristics

A fish of the bryophyte family with multiple white horizontal stripes on its elongated brown body. The head is reddish. There is a white patch under the eye. A tissue called an ocular epithelial flap is densely formed between the eyebrows. The dorsal and caudal fins are transparent and fluttering with brown streaks.

Ecology

It inhabits rocky reefs at depths of 3m or more, and as its name suggests, it often hides in caves.

Habitat

Miura Peninsula Arasaki

When I was swimming on the reef of Arasaki, I saw an individual swimming near the bottom of the water, so I took a picture of it. The depth of the water is about 3m, and when I started shooting, it came to the surface. After a while, I returned to the bottom of the water.
