Characteristics
Common sardines that are often seen in the waters around Japan. It is called "junme" because its large eyes look moist.
It has an elongated shape, with a deep blue back and a silver belly. The lower jaw protrudes a little further than the upper jaw.
Ecology
Widely inhabits coastal waters. They swim in groups near the sea surface. It eats plankton with its mouth open.
Habitat
Miura Peninsula Arasaki
Taken in Arasaki in early July. Individuals about 10 cm in length were swimming in groups near the surface of shallow water with a depth of about 1 m. It was easy to get up close and shoot. When viewed from the venue, it looks like a bright blue shadow of a fish.
