Characteristics

A sea snake without scales, it is an eel fish. The total length is about 1m. It has dark brown and light brown (yellow) mottled patterns. The head is pointed, and the nasal canal extending from the upper jaw is characteristic.

Ecology

Inhabits shallow coastal sandy areas south of Tokyo Bay. It is nocturnal and burrows into the sand during the day, leaving only its face exposed. They are carnivorous and eat animals and carcasses in the sea.

Kanagawa Prefecture Hayakawa Beach

I took a picture of him sanding only his face while diving. Only a few centimeters of its face was sticking out, but it didn't look like it was digging any further into the sand when I got closer. She looks a little silly.
