A goatfish with a bright yellow back of the body leading to the tail fin. A black-brown and white vertical stripe runs from the head.
The barbels are a dark orange color at the base, and become lighter towards the tip. The edges of the eyes are red.
They live on rocky reefs, coral reefs, and the surrounding sandy bottom. They are often found alone, but can also gather in groups of several.
They prey on animal matter on the seabed.
I took this photo around noon in August on a sandy area where the waves were rising and sand was starting to fly.
There was a small goatfish of an unfamiliar color mixed in with the stingrays and other fish. The tail fin and whiskers were bright and beautiful.
