Saw many waterfowl at Lake Suwa.
To observe the birds of Katsugen Pass again this year, I departed on Friday night and headed to Okaya. It was snowing in the early morning and quite cold.
It had started snowing by the time I arrived near the pass, and the bird activity seemed sparse.
There weren't many birds overall, and only small birds were noticeable.
It was so cold that I decided to go down to the lake and photograph the waterfowl.
It was alone near the Bufflehead.
The water in front of the sluice gate was calm, and there were many waterfowl.
A pair of Goosanders was swimming. They seemed a bit more cautious compared to other waterfowl.
There were many ducks on the lake side of the sluice gate as well.
A Great Crested Grebe was swimming close to the shore.
There were about 20 Smew near the sluice gate.
I took a walk along the shore of Lake Suwa for about 30 minutes.
There was also a flock of Northern Pintails.
A flock of American Wigeons was foraging on the land by the lake.
